Beirut Port freight activity expanded to around 417 thousand tons during the month of October 2020, up from 372 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, freight activity fell by 35.92% y-o-y to 3,684 thousand tons in the first ten months of 2020, from 5,748 thousand tons during that same period last year. In addition, the number of vessels dropped by 23.24% y-o-y to 1,153, with the number of imported cars plunging by 74.94% (32,498 cars) to 10,868 in the light of the USD liquidity shortage that is straining import activity. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 650.496 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) up to October in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 1,068.295 thousand TEUs in the same period last year. Finally, Beirut port revenues fell by 44.52% on an annual basis to $92.38 million by October 2020.
