Beirut Port freight activity improved to around 365 thousand tons during the month of February 2020, up from 363 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, freight activity contracted by 35.89% y-o-y to 728 thousand tons YTD February 2020, from 1,136 thousand tons during that same period last year. In addition, the number of vessels dropped by 1.52% to 260, with the number of imported cars plunging by 70.94% (6,044 cars) to 2,476 in the light of the USD liquidity shortage that is straining import activity. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 155.277 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 196.977 thousand TEUs in the first two months of 2019.
إرتفع حجم الشحن عبر مرفأ بيروت إلى حوالي 365 ألف طن خلال شهر شباط 2020، مقابل 363 ألف طن في الشهر الذي سبقه. أمّا على صعيدٍ تراكميٍّ، فقد تراجع حجم الشحن العامّ بنسبة 35.89% سنويّاً إلى 728 ألف طن لغاية شباط 2020، من 1،136 ألف طن في الفترة نفسها من العام المنصرم. إضافةً إلى ذلك، إنكمش عدد البواخر بنسبة 1.52% سنويٍّاً إلى 260، كما إنخفض عدد السيّارات المستورَدة ب70.94% (6،044 سيّارة) إلى 2،476 في ظلّ الشحّ في سيولة الدولار وهو ما يخنق عمليّة الإستيراد. من جهةٍ أخرى، إستقبل مرفأ بيروت حاويات ذات قدرة إستيعاب بلغت حوالي 155.277 ألف وحدة مكافئة لعشرين قدم (TEU) خلال الشهرين الأوّلين من العام 2020 مقارنةً مع 196.977 ألف وحدة مكافئة لعشرين قدم (TEU) خلال الفترة نفسها من العام 2019.
