The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted by 69.66% y-o-y to 1,206,671 during the first half of the current year, down from 3,976,970 passengers in the same period in 2019, on the back of the corona virus outbreak which required the imposition of some travel restrictions and preventive safety measures by some of the major and busiest international airports to prevent the spread of the virus. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 71.97% y-o-y to 563,930 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 67.64% to 627,697. Similarly, the number of transit travelers fell by 41.41% to 15,044, with the number of flights settling 62.13% lower on a yearly basis at 12,704. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights grew from 38.39% in the first half of 2019 to 39.59% in the same period this year. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 69.66% سنويّاً في النصف الأوّل من العام 2020 إلى 1،206،671 مسافر مقارنةً مع 3،976،970 مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق جرّاء تفشّي فيروس الكورونا الذي دفع السلطات العالميّة لوضع القيود على بعض الرحلات الجوّية وتسكير بعض المطارات وفرض تدابير سلامة وقائيّة لإحتواء الفيروس. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 71.97% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 563،930، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 67.64% إلى 627،697 مسافر. في السياق عينه، إنكمش عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 41.41% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 15،044 مسافر لغاية شهر حزيران، كما وتقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 62.13% إلى 12،704. وقد نَمَت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 38.39% في النصف الأوّل من العام 2019 إلى 39.59% في الفترة نفسها من العام 2020 ، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
