The Lebanese Ministry of Finance (MOF) published its monthly “Public Finance Monitor”, which included, among others, government transfers to Electricité Du Liban (EDL), revealing some $202.99 million annual contraction in the amounts transferred to LBP 607 billion ($402.7 million) in the first five months of the current year, down from LBP 913 billion ($605.6 million) during that same period last year. This owes to the 33.6% y-o-y drop in the value of gas and fuel purchases from KPC and Sonatrach to LBP 605 billion ($401.3 million) as a result of the significant drop in oil prices.
It is worth noting that the amounts transferred to EDL constituted 10.65% of the government’s total primary expenditures during the first five months of this year, compared to a higher proportion of 13.57% in the same period a year earlier.

(402.7 مليون د.أ.) خلال الأشهر الخمسة الأولى من العام 2020، مقابِل 913 مليار ل.ل. (605.6 مليون د.أ.) في الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق. يُنسَب هذا التراجع إلى إنخفاض فاتورة المدفوعات لقاء شراء الغاز والوقود من مؤسَّسة البترول الكويتيّة وشركة سوناطراك الجزائريّة بنسبة 33.6% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 605 مليار ل.ل. (401.3 مليون د.أ.). نتيجة تدهور أسعار النفط عالميّاً.
يجدر الذكر أنّ حصّة التحويلات إلى شركة كهرباء لبنان قد تراجعت إلى 10.65% من إجمالي النفقات الأوّليّة للحكومة مع نهاية شهر أيّار 2020، مقابِل حصّة 13.57% في الفترة الموازية من العام السابق.
