The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted markedly to 347,541 during the first two months of 2021, down from 977,524 passengers during the same period in 2020, on the back of the corona virus outbreak which caused some travel restrictions and preventive safety measures by some of the major and busiest international airports to prevent the spread of the virus, not to mention the lockdown that was imposed by the Lebanese government since January 14 and until the 8th of February. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 70.33% y-o-y to 134,471 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 59.92% to 205,052. Similarly, the number of transit travelers fell by 37.03% to 8,018 up to February, with the number of flights settling 51.39% lower on a yearly basis at 4,274. It is worth highlighting in this context that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights dropped from 43.69% during the first two months of 2020 to 36.27% by end of February 2021. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بشكلٍ ملحوظ إلى 347،541 مسافر خلال الشهرين الأولين من العام 2021 مقارنةً مع 977،524 مسافر خلال الفترة نفسها من العام 2020 جرّاء تفشّي فيروس الكورونا الذي دفع السلطات العالميّة لوضع القيود على بعض الرحلات الجوّية وتسكير بعض المطارات وفرض تدابير سلامة وقائيّة لإحتواء الفيروس كما والحجر الكامل الذي فرضته الحكومة اللبنانيّة منذ 14 كانون الثاني من العام الحالي ولغاية 8 شباط. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 70.33% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 134،471 مسافر، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 59.92% إلى 205،052 مسافر. من ناحية أخرى، إنخفض عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 37.03% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 8،018 مسافر مع نهاية شهر شباط 2021، كما وتقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 51.39% إلى 4،274. وقد إنكمشت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 43.69% خلال الشهرين الأوّلين من العام 2020 إلى 36.27% في الفترة نفسها من العام الحالي، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
