Beirut Port freight activity widened to around 457 thousand tons during the month of February 2021, up from 375 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, freight activity improved by 14.24% y-o-y to 832 thousand tons YTD February 2021, from 728 thousand tons during that same period last year. However, the number of vessels dropped by 25.38% to 194, while the number of imported cars expanded by 9.98% (247 cars) to 2,723, yet said figure remains significantly pale in the light of the USD liquidity shortage that is straining import activity. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 109.400 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 155.277 thousand TEUs in the first two months of 2020. Finally, Beirut port revenues fell by 18.84% on an annual basis to just below $17 million during the first two months of 2021.
