Beirut Port freight activity contracted to around 376 thousand tons during the month of May 2022, down from 434 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, however, freight activity remained almost flat at 2,067 thousand tons by end of May 2022. In addition, the number of vessels dropped by 8.00% y-o-y to 483 while the number of imported cars rose by 31.80% (3,197 cars) to 13,251. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 277.65 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 274.56 thousand TEUs by end of May 2021.
