The World Bank Group published its latest statistics on the cost of sending remittances from 48 source countries and in 105 receiving countries. The cost includes, among others, transaction fees, the applicable exchange rate, and the speed of the service. According to these statistics, the cost of sending $200 from the United States to Lebanon stood at $26.33 in the third quarter of 2022, representing 13.17% of the total amount transferred, compared to $21.26   (i.e. 10.63% of the transferred amount) a quarter earlier. This qualifies the USA-Lebanon corridor to be the third most expensive among all money corridors emanating from the United States. In a related note, the average cost of sending $500 from the United States to Lebanon dropped to $26.33 (5.27% of the transferred amount) in the third quarter of 2022, down from $27.70 (5.54% of the amount transferred) in the previous quarter. Furthermore, the World Bank statistics revealed that the cost of sending $200 from Canada increased to $20.86 (10.43%), with that of sending $200 from Australia rising to $20.80 (10.40%). As far as European countries are concerned, the cost of sending $200 from Sweden to Lebanon decreased to $17.18 (8.59% of the transferred amount), while that of sending $200 from France increased to $16.91 (8.45%), and the cost of sending $500 from the aforementioned countries attaining $28.02 in the case of Sweden and to $28.22 in the case of France. The cost of sending $200 from Germany to Lebanon rose to $17.38 (8.69% of the transferred amount) with that of sending $500 concurrently increasing to $34.53 (6.91% of the transferred amount). It is worth noting that Lebanon emerged as the ninth most expensive destination for sending $200 from Germany. On a regional basis, the cost of sending $200 from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon fell to $12.61 (6.30% of the transferred amount) in the third quarter of 2022, with that of sending $500 contracting to $16.88 (3.38%).
