The World Bank Group published its latest statistics on the cost of sending remittances from 48 source countries and in 105 receiving countries. The cost includes, among others, transaction fees, the applicable exchange rate, and the speed of the service. According to these statistics, the cost of sending $200 from the United States to Lebanon stood at $22.06 in the fourth quarter of 2022, representing 11.03% of the total amount transferred, compared to $26.33   (i.e. 13.17% of the transferred amount) a quarter earlier. This qualifies the USA-Lebanon corridor to be the second most expensive among all money corridors emanating from the United States. In a related note, the average cost of sending $500 from the United States to Lebanon increased to $26.97 (5.39% of the transferred amount) in the fourth quarter of 2022, up from $26.33 (5.27% of the amount transferred) in the previous quarter. Furthermore, the World Bank statistics revealed that the cost of sending $200 from Canada contracted to $16.44 (8.22%), with that of sending $200 from Australia rising to $23.20 (11.60%). As far as European countries are concerned, the cost of sending $200 from Sweden to Lebanon decreased to $15.22 (7.61% of the transferred amount), with that of sending $200 from France contracting to $16.03 (8.01%), and the cost of sending $500 from the aforementioned countries attaining $28.34 in the case of Sweden and to $28.48 in the case of France. The cost of sending $200 from Germany to Lebanon receded to $15.63 (7.82% of the transferred amount) with that of sending $500 concurrently dropping to $31.86 (6.37% of the transferred amount). It is worth noting that Lebanon emerged as the fifth most expensive destination for receiving $200 from Germany. On a regional basis, the cost of sending $200 from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon fell to $10.35 (5.18% of the transferred amount) in the fourth quarter of 2022, with that of sending $500 contracting to $16.73 (3.35%).

أَصدَرت مجموعة البنك الدولي مؤخَّراً إحصاءاتها الجديدة المتعلِّقة بكلفة تحويلات المغتربين في جميع أنحاء العالم، والتي تَحتَسِب تكلفة إنجاز التحويلات الماليّة من 48 دولة إلى 105 وجهاتٍ مختلفة. وتَشمل الكلفة هذه رسوم المعاملة، وسعر الصرف المعتمَد، وسرعة الخدمة، وغيرها. وقد كَشَفَت الإحصاءات أنّ تكلفة تحويل 200 د.أ. من الولايات المتّحدة الأميركيّة إلى لبنان هي ثاني أغلى تكلفة (22.06 د.أ.) في العالم في الفصل الرابع من العام 2022، أي ما يشكّل 11.03% من قيمة المبالغ المرسَلة، مقارنةً ب26.33 د.أ. (أي 13.17% من قيمة المبلغ المرسَل) في الفصل الذي سبقه. في سياقٍ متّصِل، إرتفعت كلفة تحويل 500 د.أ. من الولايات المتّحدة إلى لبنان إلى 26.97 د.أ. (5.39% من قيمة المبالغ المرسلة) في الفصل الرابع من العام 2022، من 26.33 د.أ. (5.27%) في الفصل الذي سبقه. أيضاً، أشارت إحصاءات البنك الدولي إلى أنّ كلفة إرسال 200 د.أ. من كندا إلى لبنان قد إنخفضت إلى 16.44 د.أ. (8.22% من قيمة المبلغ المرسَل)، فيما زادت هذه الكلفة من أستراليا إلى لبنان إلى 23.20 د.أ. (11.60%). أمّا فيما يتعلّق بالدول الأوروبيّة، فقد تدنّت كلفة تحويل 200 د.أ. من السويد إلى 15.22 د.أ. (7.61% من قيمة المبالغ المرسلة) كما وتراجعت لجهة التحويلات الآتية من فرنسا إلى 16.03 د.أ. (8.01%) في الفصل الرابع من العام 2022، علماً أنّ كلفة تحويل 500 د.أ. من السويد وفرنسا إلى لبنان قد وصلت إلى 28.34 د.أ. و28.48 د.أ. بالتتالي. من ناحية أخرى، فإنّ كلفة إرسال 200 د.أ. من ألمانيا قد تراجعت إلى 15.63 د.أ. (7.82%) كما وإنخفضت كلفة تحويل 500 د.أ. إلى 31.86 د.أ. (6.37%). يجدُر الذكر أنّ لبنان قد برز كخامس أغلى وجهة لإستقبال 200 د.أ. من ألمانيا في الفصل الرابع من العام 2022. إقليميّاً، إنخفضت كلفة إرسال 200 د.أ. من المملكة العربيّة السعوديّة إلى لبنان إلى 10.35 د.أ. (5.18% من قيمة المبلغ المرسَل) في الفصل الرابع من العام 2022، كما وتراجعت كلفة إرسال 500 د.أ. إلى 16.73 د.أ. (3.35% من المبلغ المرسل).
