The World Bank Group published its latest statistics on the cost of sending remittances from 48 source countries and in 105 receiving countries. The cost includes, among others, transaction fees, the applicable exchange rate, and the speed of the service. According to these statistics, the cost of sending $200 from the United States to Lebanon stood at $23.88 in the fourth quarter of 2023, representing 11.94% of the total amount transferred, compared to $23.25 (i.e. 11.63% of the transferred amount) a quarter earlier. This qualifies the USA-Lebanon corridor to be the third most expensive among all money corridors emanating from the United States. In a related note, the average cost of sending $500 from the United States to Lebanon rose to $29.28 (5.86% of the transferred amount) in the fourth quarter of 2023, up from $28.66 (5.73% of the transferred amount) in the previous quarter. Furthermore, the World Bank statistics revealed that the cost of sending $200 from Canada increased to $18.88 (9.44%), while that of sending $200 from Australia decreased to $21.65 (10.83%). As far as European countries are concerned, the cost of sending $200 from Sweden to Lebanon fell to $14.99 (7.49% of the transferred amount), with that of sending $200 from France and the United Kingdom dropping to $20.97 (10.48%) and $13.85 (6.93%) respectively. Similarly, the cost of sending $500 from the aforementioned European countries attained $27.75 in the case of Sweden, $39.90 in the case of France and $27.15 as far as the UK is concerned. The cost of sending $200 from Germany to Lebanon rose to $16.35 (8.18% of the transferred amount) with that of sending $500 concurrently increasing to $33.23 (6.65% of the transferred amount). It is worth noting that Lebanon emerged as the 6th most expensive destination for receiving $200 from Germany. On a regional basis, the cost of sending $200 from Saudi Arabia to Lebanon decreased to $10.35 (5.18% of the transferred amount) in the fourth quarter of 2023, with that of sending $500 also dropping to $16.68 (3.34%).

(أي 11.63% من قيمة المبلغ المرسَل) في الفصل الذي سبقه. في سياقٍ آخر، زادت كلفة تحويل 500 د.أ. من الولايات المتّحدة إلى لبنان إلى 29.28 د.أ. (5.86% من قيمة المبالغ المرسلة) في الفصل الرابع من العام 2023، من 28.66 د.أ. (5.73%) في الفصل الذي سبقه. أيضاً، أشارت إحصاءات البنك الدولي إلى أنّ كلفة إرسال 200 د.أ. من كندا إلى لبنان قد إرتفعت إلى 18.88 د.أ. (9.44% من قيمة المبلغ المرسَل)، في حين تراجعت هذه الكلفة من أستراليا إلى لبنان إلى 21.65 د.أ. (10.83%). أمّا فيما يتعلّق بالدول الأوروبيّة، فقد إنخفضت كلفة تحويل 200 د.أ. من السويد إلى 14.99 د.أ. (7.49% من قيمة المبالغ المرسلة) كما وتراجعت لجهة التحويلات الآتية من فرنسا ومن المملكة المتّحدة إلى 20.97 د.أ. (10.48%) و13.85 د.أ. (6.93%) بالتتالي. بالتوازي، وصلت كلفة تحويل 500 د.أ. من السويد وفرنسا والمملكة المتّحدة إلى لبنان إلى 27.75 د.أ. و39.90 د.أ. و27.15 د.أ. بالتتالي. من ناحية أخرى، فإنّ كلفة إرسال 200 د.أ. من ألمانيا قد إرتفعت إلى 16.35 د.أ. (8.18%) كما وزادت كلفة تحويل 500 د.أ. من البلد نفسه إلى لبنان إلى 33.23 د.أ. (6.65%). يجدُر الذكر أنّ لبنان قد برز كسادس أغلى وجهة لإستقبال 200 د.أ. من ألمانيا في الفصل الرابع من العام 2023. إقليميّاً، إنخفضت كلفة إرسال 200 د.أ. من المملكة العربيّة السعوديّة إلى لبنان إلى 10.35 د.أ. (5.18% من قيمة المبلغ المرسَل) في الفصل الرابع من العام 2023، كما وتراجعت كلفة إرسال 500 د.أ. إلى 16.68 د.أ. (3.34% من المبلغ المرسل).
