M1, a telecommunications company jointly owned by Mr. Najib and Mr. Taha Mikati, recently finalized a deal to purchase the entirety of “MTN Afghanistan” shares for $24 million. The deal was conducted at a discount especially since MTN Group was considering selling some of its affiliates especially in Afghanistan where profits are not significant, bearing in mind that MTN’s capital investments are large, with the company’s assets standing at $115 million. The aforementioned deal came after a similar one was conducted in Myanmar where M1 Group purchased the branch of the Norwegian telecommunications company “Telenor” for $105 million.
أنهت شركة M1، وهي شركة إتّصالات مملوكة من السادة نجيب وطاها ميقاتي، صفقة شراء كامل أسهم شركة MTN Afghanistan بقيمة 24 مليون د.أ. وبحسب أوساط مطّلعة، فإنّ الصفقة زهيدة الثمن، خاصّةً وأنّ مجموعة MTN كانت تنوي التخلّي عن بعض شركاتها التابعة ولا سيّما في أفغانستان حيث لا يتمّ تحقيق مردود كبير بالرغم من أنّ الشركة لديها إستثمارات رأسماليّة كبيرة إذ تبلغ قيمة أصول MTN Afghanistan 115 مليون د.أ. وقد أتت الصفقة بعدما نفّذت مجموعة M1 صفقة مشابهة في ميانمار حين إشترت فرع شركة الإتّصالات "تيلينور" النرويجيّة بمبلغ 105 مليون د.أ.
