The World Bank issued a press release on January 27, 2026 in which it announced that it approved a $350 million financing to assist Lebanon in meeting the basic needs of the poor and vulnerable during economic and financial recovery and deliver “high-impact” public services by means of digitally transforming the public sector. More specifically, the World Bank noted that the $350 million financing will be divided into two new projects whose objectives are to improve the lives of individuals by granting social protection to the poor, encouraging the economic inclusion of women, youth and vulnerable groups, strengthening social protection delivery systems, and digitalizing key public services.

The press release presented the two projects that will make up the $350 million financing package as follows:

1)    The “Social Safety Net Enhancement and System Building Project” ($200 Million): The objective of this project is to keep reinforcing Lebanon’s social protection while supplementing the government’s financing of cash transfers. The World Bank added that said project will provide cash transfers to the poor and vulnerable Lebanese households and increase access to economic opportunities and social services.

2)   The “Lebanon Digital Acceleration Project” ($150 Million): The aim of this project is to grant citizens better access to critical government services and economic opportunities, and enable business and entrepreneurs by means of a more secure digital environment and greater market access. According to the World Bank, this project will strengthen the legal, institutional, and human capital foundations for an inclusive digital transformation, as well as the implementation of infrastructure and digital platforms.
