Activity on the Lebanese stock market improved during the third month of the year 2020, with volume traded on the BSE rising by 161.29% to 4,520,173 shares during the month of March, from 1,729,973 shares in February. Similarly, value traded increased by 38.75% month-on-month to $15.71 million, from $11.32 million in February. Trades were mainly concentrated on banking sector stocks, which represented 67.28% of the total traded volume, followed by real estate stocks (32.72%), with no activity on industry & trading stocks being recorded. Market capitalization contracted, however, to around $6.20 billion by end of March, from nearly $6.24 billion at end of February, and remained much lower than the circa $9.63 billion reading recorded in March of last year. The contraction in market capitalization came in spite of the increase in the number of bank Audi listed shares by 188,789,011 under the provisions of the first phase of BDL circular 532 which requires banks to increase their common Tier I equity by 10% through cash contribution to capital.
On a cumulative basis, the number of shares changing hands on the BSE plunged by 87.67% year-on-year to just below 22.56 million shares during the first quarter of the current year, with value traded sinking by 96.26% over the same period to about $29.08 million. As far as trading multiples are concerned, the weighted average Price to Book Value (P/BV) of listed stocks ended the third month of 2020 higher at 0.543x, compared to 0.532x in February, yet remained significantly below the 0.675x reading recorded at end of March 2019. This can be explained by the sharp drop in prices amid the strong recessionary environment and outbreak of the corona virus.
Overall, trading activity was more dynamic during the month of March 2020, as evidenced by the increase in the turnover ratio (being the number of shares traded divided by total listed shares) to 0.23%, up from 0.10% in February. The turnover ratio, however, was very thin on a cumulative basis reaching 1.16% by end of the first quarter of this year, compared to 10.42% in the same period last year.
شهدت حركة التداول على بورصة بيروت تحسّناً خلال الشهر الثالث من العام 2020، مع إرتفاع عدد الأسهُم المُتداوَلة بنسبة 161.29% إلى 4،520،173 سهم، مقارنةً ب1،729،973 سهم في الشهر الذي سبقه. كذلك زادت قيمة الأسهُم المُتداوَلة بنسبة 38.75% على صعيدٍ شهريٍّ إلى 15.71 مليون د.أ.، من 11.32 مليون د.أ. في الشهر الثاني من العام 2020. وقد تركّزت الحصّة الأكبر للأسهُم المُتداوَلة في القطاع المصرفي الذي إستحوذ على 67.28% من مجموع عدد الأسهُم المُتداوَلة، تبعه القطاع العقاري (32.72%)، في حين لم يُسجَّل أيّ تداولٍ للأسهُم التابعة للقطاع الصناعي والتجاري. أمّا فيما يخصّ الرسملة السوقيّة للبورصة، فقد تراجعت هذه الأخيرة إلى حوالي ال6.20 مليار د.أ. في نهاية شهر آذار 2020، من نحو 6.24 مليار د.أ. في نهاية شباط، كما وبقيت أدنى بكثير من المستوى الذي كانت عليه في شهر آذار من العام الفائت، والبالغ حينها 9.63 مليار د.أ. وقد أتى هذا التراجع في الرسملة السوقيّة بالرغم من زيادة عدد الأسهم المدرجة التابعة لبنك عودة ب188،789،011 تحت مظلّة المرحلة الأولى من تعميم مصرف لبنان رقم 532 والذي يطلب من المصارف أن تقوم بزيادة أموالها الخاصّة الأساسيّة بنسبة 10% عن طريق مقدّمات نقديّة بالدولار الأميركي.
أمّا على صعيدٍ تراكميٍّ، فقد تراجع عدد الأسهمُ المُتداوَلة على بورصة بيروت بنسبة 87.67% سنويّاً إلى ما دون ال22.56 مليون سهم في نهاية الفصل الأوّل من العام الحالي، كما وإنخفضت قيمة الأسهُم المتداوَلة بنسبة 96.26% إلى نحو 29.08 مليون د.أ. وقد إرتفع المتوسِّط المثقَّل للسعر على القيمة الدفتريّة (P/Bv) للأسهُم المُدرَجة إلى 0.543 مع نهاية شهر آذار2020، مقابل 0.532 في شهر شباط، فيما بقيت أدنى من المتوسّط المسجّل في آذار 2019 والبالغ حينها 0.675، وذلك بفعل التراجع المهمّ في أسعار الأسهُم المدرَجة في ظّل الركود الإقتصادي الكبير وتفشّي فيروس الكورونا.
وقد كانت ديناميكيّة التداول على بورصة بيروت أفضل خلال الشهر الثالث من العام 2020 كما يتبيّن من خلال متوسِّط عدد الأسهُم المتداوَلة كنسبةٍ من عدد الأسهُم المدرجة، والذي بلغ 0.23%، مقارنةً ب0.10% في شهر شباط. أمّا على صعيد تراكمي، فقد تراجعت هذه النسبة بشكلٍ كبير وصلت إلى 1.16% خلال الفصل الأوّل من العام الجاري، مقابل 10.42% في الفترة الموازية من العام الفائت.
