The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted by 33.41% y-o-y to 1,165,094 during the first quarter of the current year, down from 1,749,693 passengers in the same period in 2019, on the back of the corona virus outbreak which caused some travel restrictions and preventive safety measures by some of the major and busiest international airports to prevent the spread of the virus. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 36.14% y-o-y to 535,609 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 31.29% to 616,495. Similarly, the number of transit travelers fell by 4.74% to 12,990, with the number of flights settling 29.90% lower on a yearly basis at 10,805. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights grew from 39.67% in the first quarter of 2019 to 43.42% in the same quarter this year. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 33.41% سنويّاً خلال الفصل الأوّل من العام 2020 إلى 1،165،094 مسافر مقارنةً مع 1،749،693 مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق جرّاء تفشّي فيروس الكورونا الذي دفع السلطات العالميّة لوضع القيود على بعض الرحلات الجوّية وتسكير بعض المطارات وفرض تدابير سلامة وقائيّة لإحتواء الفيروس. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 36.14% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 535،609، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 31.29% إلى 616،495 مسافر. في السياق عينه، إنكمش عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 4.74% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 12،990 مسافر لغاية شهر آذار، كما وتقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 29.90% إلى 10،805. وقد نَمَت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 39.67% في الفصل الأوّل من العام 2019 إلى 43.42% في الفترة نفسها من العام 2020 ، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
