The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted by 62.04% y-o-y to 1,191,376 during the first five months of the current year, down from 3,138,472 passengers in the same period in 2019, on the back of the corona virus outbreak which caused some travel restrictions and preventive safety measures by some of the major and busiest international airports to prevent the spread of the virus. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 64.05% y-o-y to 556,966 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 60.35% to 620,991. Similarly, the number of transit travelers fell by 41.05% to 13,419, with the number of flights settling 55.06% lower on a yearly basis at 12,051. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights grew from 38.64% in the first five months of 2019 to 41.25% in the same period this year. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 62.04% سنويّاً في الأشهر الخمسة الأولى من العام 2020 إلى 1،191،376 مسافر مقارنةً مع 3،138،472 مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق جرّاء تفشّي فيروس الكورونا الذي دفع السلطات العالميّة لوضع القيود على بعض الرحلات الجوّية وتسكير بعض المطارات وفرض تدابير سلامة وقائيّة لإحتواء الفيروس. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 64.05% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 556،966، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 60.35% إلى 620،991 مسافر. في السياق عينه، إنكمش عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 41.05% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 13،419 مسافر لغاية شهر أيّار، كما وتقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 55.06% إلى 12،051. وقد نَمَت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 38.64% مع نهاية شهر أيّار من العام 2019 إلى 41.25% في الفترة نفسها من العام 2020 ، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
