The Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL) released its Circular No. 229/2020 in coordination with the Central Bank of Lebanon concerning the import of medicine and medical supplies. In details, the circular requires banks to waive the previous requirement (as per BDL intermediate circular no. 530) on importers of medicine and medical products to secure 15% of the import bill via USD banknotes, allowing them instead to settle said amount through their bank savings or via a wire transfer from another bank or by cheque. It is worth highlighting, in this perspective, that importers are required to finance the remaining 85% of the import invoice in Lebanese pounds.
أَصدَرَت جمعيّة المصارف في لبنان التعميم رقم 229/2020 بالتنسيق مع مصرف لبنان والمتعلّق بعمليّة إستيراد الأدوية والمستلزمات الطبيّة. وبحسب التعميم، على المصارف اللبنانيّة عدم إجبار مستوردي الأدوية والمستلزمات الطبيّة توفير نسبة ال15% من إجمالي فاتورة الإستيراد نقداً بالعملات الأجنبيّة (كما كان مطلوباً سابقاً بحسب التعميم رقم 530) بل إتاحة الفرصة لهم لتأمين هذا المبلغ أمّا عبر حساباتهم لدى المصرف المعني أو عبر تحويل من مصرف آخر أو عبر شيك. ويجدر الذكر في هذا السياق بأنّه على المستوردين تأمين نسبة ال85% الباقية بالليرة اللبنانيّة.
