The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted by 72.72% y-o-y to 2,219,845 during the first eleven months of 2020, down from 8,138,752 passengers in the same period in 2019, on the back of the corona virus outbreak which caused some travel restrictions and preventive safety measures by some of the major and busiest international airports to prevent the spread of the virus. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 74.55% y-o-y to 1,016,992 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 71.94% to 1,149,741. On the other hand, the number of transit travelers rose by 15.58% to 53,112, with the number of flights settling 64.00% lower on a yearly basis at 24,279. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights dropped from 37.35% in the first eleven months of 2019 to 36.57% in the same period this year. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 72.72% سنويّاً خلال الأشهر الأحد عشرة الأولى من العام 2020 إلى 2،219،845 مسافر مقارنةً مع 8،138،752 مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق جرّاء تفشّي فيروس الكورونا الذي دفع السلطات العالميّة لوضع القيود على بعض الرحلات الجوّية وتسكير بعض المطارات وفرض تدابير سلامة وقائيّة لإحتواء الفيروس. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 74.55% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 1،016،992 مسافر، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 71.94% إلى 1،149،741 مسافر. من ناحية أخرى، زاد عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 15.58% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 53،112 مسافر لغاية شهر تشرين الثاني، فيما تقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 64.00% إلى 24،279. وقد تراجعت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 37.35% مع نهاية شهر تشرين الثاني من العام 2019 إلى 36.57% في الفترة نفسها من العام 2020 ، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
