Forbes’ billionaires list for the year 2021, which is the 35th annual ranking edition of its kind, unveiled that the number of billionaires increased by 31.50% (660) to 2,755, up from 2,095 in the 2020 list. Furthermore, the total net worth of mentioned billionaires soared by 63.75% ($5.1 trillion) to $13.1 trillion as per the April 2021 list, up from $8.0 trillion last year. Forbes attributed the hike in the total net worth of the aforementioned billionaires to “rapid-fire” public offerings, surging cryptocurrencies and rising stock prices. It is worth mentioning that wealth figures are estimated using stock prices and exchange rates as at March 5, 2021.
With respect to the rankings, Jeff Bezos, founder of the e-commerce giant Amazon, topped the list of the world’s richest individuals for the fourth year in a row, with an estimated net worth of $177 billion. Mr. Bezos’ fortune rose by $64 billion in the April 2021 Forbes’ list. Elon Musk (founder of Tesla and SpaceX) came 2nd with a net worth of $151 billion, followed by Bernard Arnault & family (CEO of Louis Vuitton; $150 billion), Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft; $124 billion), and Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook; $97 billion). As far as the Arab region is concerned, Mr. Pavel Durov from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led the list of the region’s billionaires, ranking 112th worldwide with an estimated fortune of $17.2 billion, followed by Nassef Sawiris (Egypt; 297th global position; estimated net worth of $8.3 billion), Issad Rebrab & family (Algeria; 589th global position; estimated net worth of $4.8 billion), and M.A. Yusuff Ali (UAE; 589th global position; estimated net worth of $4.8 billion).
On a local basis, two renowned Lebanese individuals made it to Forbes’ billionaires list for the year 2021 with a combined fortune of $5 billion. In specific, Mr. Najib Mikati emerged as the richest individual in Lebanon, with an estimated fortune of $2.5 billion, ranking 10th regionally and 1,249th globally, followed by Mr. Taha Mikati ($2.5 billion; 11th regional position, 1,249th global position).
شهدت لائحة فوربز لأثرياء العالم للعام 2021، وهي النسخة ال35 من نوعها، إرتفاعاً بنسبة 31.50% (660) في عدد الأثرياء إلى 2،755، مقابل 2،095 شخصيّة برزت أسماؤها على لائحة العام 2020. وقد زاد إجمالي صافي ثروة أثرياء العالم بنسبة 63.75% (5.1 ترليون د.أ.) إلى 13.1 تريليون د.أ. بحسب إحصاءات فوربز في شهر آذار 2021، مقابل 8.0 تريليون د.أ. في العام السابق. وقد نسبت فوربز هذه الزيادة في ثروة أثرياء العالم إلى الوتيرة السريعة في الإكتتابات بالإصدارات العامّة، والتحسّن في العملة المشفّرة (cryptocurrency) وإرتفاع أسعار الأسهم. يجدر الذكر أنّ تقييم الثروات قد إستند على أسعار الأسهُم وأسعار صرف العملات كما في الخامس من آذار 2021.
بالنسبة للترتيب العالمي، إحتلّ جيف بيزوس، مؤسّس عملاق التجارة الألكترونيّة أمازون، المرتبة الأولى على لائحة فوربز للسنة الرابعة على التوالي، إذ قُدِّرَت ثروته الصافية ب177 مليار د.أ.، مرتفعةً ب64 مليار د.أ. مقارنةً بأرقام العام الماضي. وجاء إيلون مسك (مؤسّس شركة تيسلا Tesla وسبيس إكس SpaceX) في المرتبة الثانية عالمياً بثروة تُقدَّر ب151 مليار د.أ.، تبعه برنار أرنو وعائلته (المدير التنفيذي في شركة لويس فيتون Louis Vuitton؛ 150 مليار د.أ.)، بيل غايتس (مؤسّس شركة ميكروسوفت Microsoft؛ 124 مليار د.أ.)، ومارك زاكربورغ (مؤسّس شركة فيسبوك Facebook؛ 97 مليار د.أ.). أمّا عربيّاً، فقد تصدّر السيّد بافيل دوردف من الإمارات العربيّة المتّحدة لائحة أثرياء المنطقة للعام 2021، آتياً في المرتبة 112 عالميّاً، بحيث قُدّرت ثروته ب17.2 مليار د.أ. تبعه ناصف ساويرس (مصر؛ المركز 297 عالميّاً؛ ثروة مُقَدَّرَة ب8.3 مليار د.أ.) ويسعد ربرب وعائلته (الجزائر؛ المركز 589 عالميّاً؛ ثروة مُقَدَّرَة ب4.8 مليار د.أ.)، ويوسف علي (الإمارات العربيّة المتحدة؛ المركز 589 عالميّاً؛ ثروة مُقَدَّرَة ب4.8 مليار د.أ.).
على صعيدٍ محليٍّ، شملت لائحة فوربز للعام 2021 شخصيّتين لبنانيّتين تُقدَّر ثروتهما المجمّعة ب5 مليار د.أ. بالتفصيل، برز إسم السيّد نجيب ميقاتي كأغنى شخصيّة في لبنان مع ثروة مقدّرة ب2.5 مليار د.أ.، محتلّاً المركز ال10 إقليميّاً والمركز ال1،249 عالميّاً، تبعه السيّد طه ميقاتي (ثروة مُقدَّرَة ب2.5 مليار د.أ.؛ المركز ال11 إقليميّاً؛ المركز ال1،249 عالميّاً).
