The amendment of decree number 6433 related to Lebanon’s maritime borders was sent to the Presidency of the Republic, after being signed by the Prime Minister of the caretaker government Mr. Hassan Diab, along with the Minister of Defence Mrs. Zeina Akr and the Minister of Public Works Mr. Michel Najjar. However, the General Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic commented that the decree requires a decision from the Council of Ministers according to the opinion of the Legislation and Consultation Commission, even with a caretaker government due to its importance. It is worth highlighting that the decree gives Lebanon the right to claim an additional 1430 square kilometers in maritime borders, over and above the original 860 square kilometers that were the subject of negotiations, which includes around 50% of the Karish oil field.
