Beirut Port freight activity narrowed to around 351 thousand tons during the month of August 2021, down from 356 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis however, freight activity improved by 7.70% y-o-y to 3,118 thousand tons during the first eight months of 2021, from 2,895 thousand tons during that same period last year. However, the number of vessels dropped by 14.87% y-o-y to 790. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 423.924 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 524.166 thousand TEUs in the first eight months of 2020. Finally, Beirut port revenues fell by 13.21% on an annual basis to $64.30 million YTD August 2021.
