According to the statistics published by the Automobile Importers Association (AIA), the number of new cars registered fell by 28.1% y-o-y to 4,098 vehicles during the first eleven months of 2021, down from 5,702 vehicles during that same period last year. In addition, new registered cars plunged by 80.7% when compared to the 21,285 vehicles reported during the same period in 2019. The AIA attributed said drop in registrations to the harsh financial, economic & political environment, the closure of the Registration Center (TMO) for several days during the past five months amid power shortage and the sizeable devaluation of the Lebanese Pound. The sharp annual drop in the number of new registered cars can also be explained by the foreign currency liquidity squeeze in the banking sector which constrained buyers from withdrawing cash in foreign currencies to meet the new conditions set forth by vehicle dealers who require buyers to settle a significant part of the price in fresh Dollars.
إستناداً إلى إحصاءات جمعيّة مستوردي السيّارات، تراجعت تسجيلات السيّارات الجديدة في لبنان بنسبة 28.1% سنويّاً إلى 4،098 سيّارة خلال الأشهر الأحد عشرة الأولى من العام الحالي، من 5،702 سيّارة في الفترة نفسها من العام المنصرم. كذلك إنخفضت تسجيلات السيّارات بنسبة 80.7% مقارنةً بالمستوى التي كانت عليه في الفترة نفسها من العام 2019 والبالغة حينها 21،285 سيّارة. وبحسب الجمعيّة، يعزى هذا الإنخفاض في التسجيلات إلى التدهور الكبير في الوضع المالي والإقتصادي والسياسي، إضافةً إلى الإقفال المتكرّر لهيئة إدارة السير والآليّات والمركبات خلال الأشهر الخمسة الماضية بسبب نقص التغذية الكهربائيّة، ناهيك عن التدهور غير المسبوق في سعر صرف الليرة اللبنانيّة مقابل الدولار الأميركي. كذلك يمكن تعليل التراجع المذكور بالنقص في السيولة بالدولار الأميركي في القطاع المصرفي والقيود التي تمّ فرضها على السحوبات بالعملة الأجنبيّة ما أعاق عمليّات بيع السيّارات الجديدة حيث أنّ شروط المبيع لدى وكلاء السيّارات تفرض حاليّاً تسديد جزء كبير من سعر المبيع نقداً بالدولار.
