Beirut Port freight activity expanded to around 377 thousand tons during the month of November 2021, up from 331 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis moreover, freight activity improved by 2.99% y-o-y to 4,221 thousand tons during the first eleven months of 2021, from 4,099 thousand tons during that same period in 2020. However, the number of vessels dropped by 14.67% y-o-y to 1,076 while the number of imported cars rose by 93.92% (10,825 cars) to 22,351. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 570.661 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 706.070 thousand TEUs in the first eleven months of 2020.
