The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) widened by 73.23% in 2021 to 4,334,231, up from 2,501,975 passengers in 2020. This rebound in the number of passengers can be attributed to many factors, namely the reclassification of Lebanon as a green zone after it managed to considerably contain the COVID-19 pandemic and the historic depreciation of the Lebanese pound which makes it an attractive destination for tourists and for the Lebanese diaspora from a purchasing power perspective. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers rose by 76.67% y-o-y to 2,070,631 with the number of departing travelers also increasing by 73.96% to 2,206,216. On the other hand, the number of transit travelers fell by 7.03% to 57,384, with the number of flights settling 46.98% higher on a yearly basis at 39,777. It is worth highlighting in this context that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights dropped from 36.54% in 2020 to 34.39% in 2021. This is further sketched in the table below:

زاد عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 73.23% خلال العام 2021 إلى 4،334،231 مسافر مقارنةً مع 2،501،975 مسافر خلال العام 2020. يمكن تعليل هذا الإرتفاع بالزيادة في عدد الوافدين بالأخص في ظلّ إعادة تصنيف لبنان ضمن المناطق الآمنة لناحية التغلّب على تفشّي وباء الكورونا من جهة والتدهور الغير مسبوق في سعر صرف الليرة ما يزيد من القدرة الشرائيّة للوافدين من الخارج ويجعل موسم الإصطياف جذّاباً. في التفاصيل، إرتفع عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 76.67% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 2،070،631. مسافر، تزامناً مع زيادة عدد المغادرين بنسبة 73.96% إلى 2،206،216 مسافر. من ناحية أخرى، تراجع عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 7.03% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 57،384 مسافر خلال العام 2021، فيما زاد عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 46.98% إلى 39،777. وقد إنكمشت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 36.54% خلال العام 2020 إلى 34.39% في العام 2021، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
