The date for the commencement of exploratory drilling in Lebanon’s offshore Block 9 in search of oil and gas was set on August 24, 2023. The drilling became possible after a U.S. sponsored maritime border agreement was reached in October 2022 between Lebanon and Israel. The consortium in charge of drilling in Block 9 (which was concluded on January 29, 2023) encompasses Qatar Energy, France’s TotalEnergies and Italy’s ENI. According to the Energy Minister Dr. Walid Fayad’s statement on August 22, the results of the exploratory drilling should become available in 67 days. Dr. Fayad added that the consortium had shown expressed in other offshore blocks around Block 9. In a related note, TotalEnergies announced in a statement that the consortium will drill one well in Block 9. Finally, TotalEnergies’ general manager in Lebanon Mr. Romain de La Martinière stated that the exploration well will allow the company to conduct an assessment of the quality of hydrocarbon reserves and production potential in the area.
تمّ تحديد تاريخ بداية عمليّات الحفر في البلوك رقم 9 في مياه لبنان الإقليميّة بحثاً عن النفط والغاز في 24 آب 2023. وقد أصبحت عمليّت التنقيب ممكنة بعدما توصّل لبنان وإسرائيل في شهر تشرين الأوّل 2022 إلى إتفاقيّة برعاية الولايات المتّحدة الأميركيّة لترسيم حدودهما البحريّة. يضمّ الكونسورتيوم المسؤول عن عمليّات الإستكشاف في البلوك رقم 9 (والذي تمّ تشكيله في 29 كانون الثاني 2023) شركة قطر للطاقة وشركة توتال إنيرجيز الفرنسيّة وشركة إني الإيطاليّة. وبحسب وزير الطاقة الدكتور وليد فيّاض في 22 آب، فإنّ نتائج عمليّات الحفر ستصبح متوفّرة بعد 67 يوماً. وقد أضاف الدكتور فيّاض أنّ الكونسورتيوم قد أظهر إهتماماً في بلوكات أخرى قريبة من البلوك رقم 9. في إطارٍ متّصل، فقد أعلنت شركة توتال إنيرجيز في بيان لها أنّ الكونسورتيوم سيقوم بحفر بئر إستكشافي في البلوك رقم 9. أخيراً، فقد أشار المدير العام لشركة توتال إنيرجيز في لبنان السيّد رومان دي لا مارتينيير أنّ البئر الإستكشافي سيسمح للشركة بتقييم جودة الإحتياطات الهيدروكاربونيّة وإمكانات الإنتاج في المنطقة.
