Dr. Walid Fayad, the caretaker Minister of Energy and Water, announced on August 24 the launching of a seismic survey on block number 8 off the Lebanese coast, which is possibly rich in natural gas. Dr. Fayad stated that the license for the seismic study was granted to Geoex MCG (based in the United Kingdom) and Brightskies Geoscience (established in Egypt). In addition, the study will be conducted by a specifically equipped ship which is expected to reach Lebanon somewhere between mid-November and mid-December 2023. It is worth noting that Block 8 is located in a disputed area between Lebanon and Israel and that the initiation of the seismic study was not possible before the demarcation agreement.
أعلن وزير الطاقة والمياه في حكومة تصريف الأعمال الدكتور وليد فيّاض في 24 آب عن إطلاق مشروع المسح على البلوك رقم 8 قبالة الساحل اللبناني، والذي قد يحتوي على مخازن كبيرة من الغاز الطبيعي. وقد أشار الدكتور فيّاض أنّه تمّ منح رخصة إجراء المسح لشركة Geoex MCG (مقرّها في المملكة المتّحدة) وشركة Brightskies Geoscience (تأسّست في مصر). بالإضافة إلى ذلك، سوف تجرى الدراسة بواسطة باخرة متخصّصة والتي من المتوقّع أن تصل إلى الشواطئ اللبنانيّة بين منتصف شهر تشرين الثاني ومنتصف شهر كانون الأوّل 2023. يجدر الإشارة إلى أنّ البلوك رقم 8 يقع في منطقة نزاع بين لبنان وإسرائيل وأنّ البدء بالمسح لم يكن ممكناً قبل إتّفاق ترسيم الحدود البحريّة.
