The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) fell by 3.85% y-o-y in the first two months of 2024 to 864,001, down from 898,643 passengers a year earlier. This drop in the number of passengers may be attributed to conflicts in the region that raised security concerns among travelers. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers dropped by 0.98% y-o-y to 405,830 with the number of departing travelers decreasing by 6.01% to 457,739 and the number of transit travelers receding by 75.84% to 432. Concurrently, the number of flights saw an annual decline of 11.96% over the concerned period to 7,227. It is worth highlighting in this context that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) fell from 44.78% of the total number of flights in the first two months of 2023 to 37.36% in the same period this year.
