The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) launched a €12.5 million, nine-year programme that aims to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Lebanese private sector. The funds allocated for the programme will be geared towards improving SMEs resource efficiency practices and support economic circularity measures through three main tools, namely capacity building, tailored advisory services, and the adoption of technologies & solutions. In addition, the programme plans to assist companies in the industrial sector (particularly those concerned with foods & beverages) to become more sustainable and decrease their carbon emissions. From another perspective, and in an effort to aid in the implementation of the recommended measures, some SMEs will obtain EU-funded resource efficiency and circularity grants to help them install pre-identified projects which should provide them with a solid advantage by honing their competitive edge and allowing them to gain market share, which should help them grow and create more jobs and simultaneously contribute to a better socioeconomic development in Lebanon. The launching of the programme took place at the InterContinental Phoenicia Hotel which hosted more than 150 representatives of the business community. In this regard, Mrs. Heike Harmgart, EBRD’s Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region, announced that the EBRD is excited to collaborate once more with the EU to support small Lebanese businesses, which are the cornerstone of the economy. In addition, Mrs. Alessandra Viezzer, Head of Cooperation at the EU delegation to Lebanon, stated that the EU is dedicated to facilitate SMEs’ adoption and development of resource efficiency practices that could produce direly needed added value to Lebanon by boosting the economy and potentially contribute to the economic recovery. It is worth noting in this respect that the EBRD has invested more than €880 million since the start of its operations in Lebanon, shifting the majority of its focus towards improving private-sector competitiveness, promoting sustainable energy and ameliorating the efficiency & quality of public services.
أطلق البنك الأوروبّي لإعادة الإعمار والتنمية (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) والإتحّاد الأوروبّي (European Union) برنامجاً بقيمة 12.5 مليون يورو على تسع سنوات لمساعدة الشركات الصغيرة والمتوسّطة الحجم (Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises) في القطاع الخاصّ اللبناني. ستستعمل الأموال المخصّصة للبرنامج لتحسين إستعمال الشركات الصغيرة والمتوسّطة الحجم للموارد ولتطوير معايير الإقتصاد الدائري من خلال ثلاث محاور وهي بناء القدرات وتخصيص الخدمات الإستشاريّة ودعم إعتماد التقنيّات والحلول. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، يهدف البرنامج إلى مساعدة الشركات في القطاع الصناعي (وخاصّةً تلك المعنيّة بالمأكولات والمشروبات) لتصبح أكثر إستدامة وتخفّف من إنبعاثات الكربون لديها. من منظارٍ آخر، وبهدف المساعدة في تطبيق المعايير المطلوبة، ستحصل بعض الشركات الصغيرة والمتوسّطة الحجم على منح من الإتّحاد الأوروبّي متعلّقة بكفاءة الموارد والإقتصاد الدائري لتنفيذ مشاريع متّفق عليها سابقاً، الأمر الذي سيعطي هذه الشركات أفضليّة لتحسين قدراتها التنافسيّة وحصّة أكبر من السوق لمساعدتها على النموّ وخلق فرص عمل جديدة كما والمساهمة في الوقت عينه بتحسين التنمية الإجتماعيّة والإقتصاديّة في لبنان. وقد تمّ إطلاق المشروع في فندق فينيسيا إنتركونتيننتال والذي إستضاف أكثر من 150 شخصيّة من رجال الأعمال في لبنان. في هذا الإطار، أعربت السيّدة هايكي هارمغارت، المدير العامّ لمنطقة جنوب وشرق المتوسّط في البنك الأوروبّي لإعادة الإعمار والتنمية، عن سرور هذا الأخير بالتعاون من جديد مع الإتّحاد الأوروبّي لدعم الشركات اللبنانيّة الصغيرة والتي تُعتَبر الحجر الأساس للإقتصاد. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، أشارت السيّدة أليساندرا فييزر، مديرة التنسيق لدى بعثة الإتّحاد الأوروبّي في لبنان، عن إلتزام الإتّحاد بتسهيل إعتماد وتنمية الشركات الصغيرة والمتوسّطة الحجم لسياسات كفاءة الموارد والتي قد تعطي لبنان قيمة مضافة من خلال تعزيز الإقتصاد ما قد تساهم بالتعافي الإقتصادي. يجدر الإشارة إلى أنّ البنك الأوروبّي لإعادة الإعمار والتنمية قد إستثمر أكثر من 880 مليون يورو منذ بدء عمله في لبنان، مخصّصاً جهده على تحسين التنافس في القطاع الخاصّ وتعزيز الطاقة المتجدّدة وتحسين نوعيّة وكفاءة الخدمات العامّة.
