The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) fell by 5.31% y-o-y in the first half of 2024 to ~3.00 million, down from 3.17 million passengers a year earlier. This drop in the number of passengers may be attributed to the escalation of tensions on the country’s southern borders in the aftermath of the war on Gaza. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers dropped by 5.27% y-o-y to 1,545,398 with the number of departing travelers decreasing by 5.14% to 1,450,882 and the number of transit travelers receding by 61.93% to 2,161. Concurrently, the number of flights saw an annual decline of 7.36% over the concerned period to 24,815. It is worth highlighting in this context that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) fell from 43.85% of the total number of flights in the first half of 2023 to 39.31% in the same period this year. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 5.31% على صعيدٍ سنويٍّ خلال النصف الأوّل من العام 2024 إلى حوالي 3.00 مليون مسافر مقارنةً مع 3.17 مليون مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام 2023. يمكن تعليل هذا الإنخفاض بتصاعد التوتّرات التي خلفّتها حرب غزّة على حدود لبنان الجنوبيّة. في التفاصيل، تراجع عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 5.27% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 1،545،398 مسافر، تزامناً مع إنكماش عدد المغادرين بنسبة 5.14% إلى 1،450،882 مسافر وتدنّي عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) بنسبة 61.93% إلى 2،161 مسافر، كما وإنخفض عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 7.36% إلى 24،815. يجدر الذكر أنّ حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي عدد الرحلات قد تراجعت من 43.85% مع نهاية شهر حزيران 2023 إلى 39.31% في الفترة ذاتها من العام 2024، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
