The caretaker minister of Energy and Water Dr. Walid Fayad recently signed an agreement for Lebanon to join the International Solar Alliance in the presence of the Indian Ambassador to Lebanon. Dr. Fayad commented that the agreement would open the door for Lebanon to benefit from the expertise and from the financial support of member countries, labeling in this context the agreement as a “turning point” in Lebanon’s journey towards attaining energy sustainability. The caretaker minister added that Lebanon has already made big steps towards achieving its target of a 30% share for renewable energies out of total energy production by the year 2030, while noting that the country enjoys abundant sunshine for around 330 days a year.
In a related note, Dr. Fayad recently announced that Lebanon would soon be launching a tender for the construction of a 7 megawatt solar powerplant.
وقّع وزير الطاقة والمياه في حكومة تصريف الأعمال الدكتور وليد فيّاض إتفاقيّة لإنضمام لبنان إلى التحالف الدولي للطاقة الشمسيّة بحضور سفير الهند في لبنان. ورأى الدكتور فيّاض بأنّ الإتفاقيّة ستفتح الباب أمام لبنان للإستفادة من خبرات الدول الأعضاء ودعمها المالي، واصفاً الإتفاقيّة في هذا السياق بأنها نقطة تحوّل في مسيرة لبنان نحو تحقيق إستدامة الطاقة. وأضاف الوزير في حكومة تصريف الأعمال بأنّ لبنان قد خطى بالفعل خطوات كبيرة نحو تحقيق هدفه المتمثل في زيادة حصّة الطاقة المتجدّدة إلى 30% من إجمالي الطاقة المنتجة بحلول العام 2030، كما وأشار إلى أن البلاد تتمتع بأشعّة الشمس الوفيرة لنحو 330 يومًا في السنة.
في سياق متّصل كشف الدكتور فيّاض مؤخّراً بأنّ لبنان سيطلق قريباً مناقصة جديدة لبناء محطة شمسيّة بقدرة ٧ ميغاوات.
