Beirut Port freight activity increased to around 586.3 thousand tons during the month of May 2025, up from 525.4 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, moreover, freight activity rose by 15.77% y-o-y during the first five months of 2025 to 2,550 thousand tons up from 2,202 thousand tons a year earlier. The number of vessels, however, dropped by 7.59% year-on-year to 584 in comparison with 632 in the same period in 2024, while the number of imported cars increased by 38.21% to 20,652 cars. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 325.95 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) up to May 2025 in comparison with a smaller cargo capacity of 295.01 thousand TEUs a year earlier.
