The World Food Programme (WFP) recently launched an emergency operation to provide food assistance for up to 1 million individuals affected by the escalation of the conflict in Lebanon. The WFP is providing ready-to-eat food rations, bread, hot meals and food parcels to families taking refuge in shelters all across Lebanon. The WFP has managed to help 66,000 sheltered individuals since the beginning of the conflict, noting that it has been working with donors and partners for several months to store food supplies in several strategic areas all over the country. The WFP commented that it is in urgent need to raise $105 million until end of year 2024 to scale up its response and is calling on the international community to assist. In addition, the WFP has organized operations in North and Central Lebanon to prepare meals for individuals seeking shelters for safety. In this regard, the WFP mentioned that some of its partners in the food security sector have provided hot meals to circa 14,000 displaced individuals in collective shelters. Finally, the WFP noted that it could scale up its operations to assist up to 1 million individuals with the currently available resources for a period of 1 month.
