The Prime Minister of the Caretaker Government Mr. Najib Mikati and the United Nations’ Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon Mr. Imran Riza have recently launched a $425.7 million flash appeal to aid some one million civilians affected by the strong escalation of hostilities, the largest since the 2006 Israeli aggression on Lebanon, to cover needs for the last quarter of 2024. The U.N. commented that on top of the civilian casualties, there was a spike in displacements from affected areas, noting that local authorities estimate the figure at around one million, while the International Organization for Migration has accounted for 350,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as of September 29, a figure expected to increase when more recent assessments are done. These IDPs require immediate assistance, having fled their homes on a very short notice, without being able to even collect basic items needed for daily life. The $425.7 million aid will be mainly geared towards the areas of food security & agriculture ($131 million), basic assistance ($47 million), shelter ($44.5 million), and health ($40 million) only to name a few as elaborated by the below table:

On top of that, the U.N. estimates that as of September 29, some 70,000 people have crossed the border to Syria. Material damages have been high as well, with some 4,000 residential buildings completely destroyed and another 20,000 severely impacted. In addition, 25 water facilities (serving some 300,000 people) were damaged, while 37 health facilities have closed across the country.
