Imports of petroleum derivatives, a proxy of economic activity and one of the constituents of the coincident indicator, fell by 6.06% month-on-month to 386,563 metric tons in December 2025, compared to 411,481 metric tons in November. On a cumulative basis, the imports of petroleum derivatives soared by 24.08% during the full year 2025 to 6.31 million tons compared to 5.08 million tons in 2024. The five-year trend depicted by the chart below, however, shows a downward trajectory in the import of petroleum derivatives with a negative compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.87% over the 2020–2025 period.
