CS Global Partners recently released its “2026 World Citizenship Report” (WCR) in which it measures the value of citizenship through a poll conducted with citizens around the globe. The report employs various approaches to measure the value of citizenship through its “World Citizenship Index” (WCI) which utilizes five modes of analysis referred to as “Motivators” to capture the value of citizenship, with each motivator assigned a specific weight in the index. The five motivators are “Safety and Security” (weight: 25%), “Economic Opportunity” (weight: 20%), “Quality of Life” (weight: 25%), “Global Mobility” (weight: 15%), and “Financial Freedom” (weight: 15%). The WCI covers 188 jurisdictions, each having its own headline score varying between 0 (lowest value) and 100 (highest value).

In terms of results, Ireland came in first in the world in the 2026 WCI with a headline score of 85.1, followed by Switzerland (score: 83.2), Denmark (score: 82.8), Australia (score: 81.6), and Norway (score: 81.6). In the Arab region, the United Arab Emirates topped the list and occupied the 22^nd place in the world in the 2026 WCI with a score of 75.7, followed by Qatar (global rank: 40; score: 68.3) and Oman (global rank: 49; score: 64.3), only to name a few.

Locally, Lebanon ranked 14^th among its Arab peers and 125^th in the world in the 2026 World Citizenship Index with a score of 44.3. More specifically, Lebanon ranked 14^th among Arab countries and 131^st in the world in the “Safety and Security” motivator (score: 47.9), 15^th in the Arab world and 122^nd globally in the “Economic Opportunity” motivator (score: 42.8), 11^th among Arab countries and 88^nd in the world in the “Quality of Life” motivator (score: 66.4), 13^th among its Arab peers and 122^nd in the world in the “Global Mobility” motivator (score: 14.5) and 15^th in the region and 140^th globally in the “Financial Freedom” motivator (score: 33.1).
