The surface area of construction permits in Lebanon, which reflects the level of future supply in the real estate sector, attained 530,718 sqm in June 2026 compared to 511,202 sqm in May. On a cumulative basis however, the surface area of construction permits came in 4.37% lower y-o-y during the first half of 2026 at 3,349,487 sqm compared to 3,502,496 sqm in the same period in 2025. The monthly evolution of construction permit areas between the June 2025 – June 2026 period shows a rollercoaster trend as depicted by the chart below:

As far as the geographical distribution of construction permits is concerned, the Mount Lebanon region continued to control the lion’s share of the total surface area of issued permits (2,038 thousand sqm <60.84%>), followed by the South (483 thousand sqm <14.43%), Bekaa (347 thousand sqm <10.37%>), Beirut (290 thousand sqm <8.65%>), Nabatieh (139 thousand sqm <4.16%>), and North (52 thousand sqm <1.55%>) regions. It is worth noting that figures for the North governorate are underestimated since they exclude permits issued by the North Order of Engineers.

Beirut enjoyed the highest exploitation coefficient which stood at 4,675 sqm per construction permit YTD June 2026, followed by the North (1,679 sqm/transaction), each of Mount Lebanon and Bekaa (1,362 sqm/transaction), South (1,132 sqm/transaction), and Nabatieh (628 sqm/transaction) governorates.
