Lebanese Republic Eurobonds staged a notable rally this week, breaking out of an extended consolidation phase as prices advanced across the curve on renewed investor interest. Most Lebanese Eurobonds traded in the 28.25–29.25 cents to the dollar range, while some maturities surpassed the 30.00 cents to the dollar level on higher demand. The move was catalyzed by signals from Finance Minister Mr. Yassin Jaber that Lebanon is nearing a new staff level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), raising hopes of a credible reform framework and meaningful progress on debt restructuring. Liquidity in the Eurobonds market improved meaningfully following the announcement. This week’s improvement in prices reflects a modest but tangible repricing of sovereign risk as markets assess the probability of a breakthrough in Lebanon’s long stalled IMF negotiations.
