Beirut Port freight activity contracted to around 488.7 thousand tons during the month of September 2019, from 576.2 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, freight activity fell by 12.80% y-o-y to 5,184 thousand tons during the first nine months of the year 2019, from 5,945 thousand tons during that same period last year. In addition, the number of vessels dropped by 5.31% on a yearly basis to 1,338, while the number of imported cars via the Beirut Port plunged by 10.62% (5,588 cars) to 47,008. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 965.528 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 977.138 thousand TEUs in the first nine months of 2018. Overall, Beirut Port revenues fell by 12.34% y-o-y to reach $152.84 million by September 2019 compared to $174.36 million in the first nine months of 2018.
