The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted by 13.58% y-o-y to 977,524 during the first two months of the current year, down from 1,131,076 passengers in the same period in 2019, on the back of the events that shook the country since mid-October not to mention contamination fear among travelers from the outbreak of the corona virus. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 14.28% y-o-y to 453,197 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 13.54% to 511,594. However, the number of transit travelers rose by just above 19% to 12,733, with the number of flights settling 14.23% lower on a yearly basis at 8,792. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights rose from 39.38% during the first two months of 2019 to 43.69% by February 2020. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 13.58% سنويّاً خلال الشهرين الأوّلين من العام 2020 إلى 977،524 مسافر مقارنةً مع 1،131،076 مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق جرّاء التوتّرات الإقتصاديّة والسياسيّة التي تلت أحداث 17 تشرين الأوّل بالإضافة إلى مخاوف العدوى من فيروس كورونا. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 14.28% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 453،197، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 13.54% إلى 511،594 مسافر. من جهةٍ أثخرى، إرتفع عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 19.21% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 12،733 مسافر لغاية شهر شباط، فيما تقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 14.23% إلى 8،792. وقد نَمَت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 39.38% مع نهاية شهر شباط 2019 إلى 43.69% مع نهاية شهر شباط 2020 ، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
