The number of passengers travelling via the Beirut International Airport (BIA) contracted by 75.05% y-o-y to 1,756,695 during the first nine months of the current year, down from 7,040,341 passengers in the same period in 2019, on the back of the corona virus outbreak which caused some travel restrictions and preventive safety measures by some of the major and busiest international airports to prevent the spread of the virus. More specifically, the number of arriving travelers contracted by 76.76% y-o-y to 807,949 with the number of departing travelers also dropping by 74.07% to 914,630. Similarly, the number of transit travelers fell by 7.19% to 34,116, with the number of flights settling 65.63% lower on a yearly basis at 19,515. It is worth highlighting, in this context, that the share of Middle East Airlines (MEA) of total flights dropped from 36.90% in the first nine months of 2019 to 36.30% in the same period this year. تراجع عدد المسافرين عبر مطار بيروت بنسبة 75.05% سنويّاً خلال الأشهر التسعة الأولى من العام 2020 إلى 1،756،695 مسافر مقارنةً مع 7،040،341 مسافر خلال الفترة ذاتها من العام السابق جرّاء تفشّي فيروس الكورونا الذي دفع السلطات العالميّة لوضع القيود على بعض الرحلات الجوّية وتسكير بعض المطارات وفرض تدابير سلامة وقائيّة لإحتواء الفيروس. في التفاصيل، إنخفض عدد الوافدين إلى لبنان بنسبة 76.76% على أساسٍ سنويٍّ إلى 807،949، تزامناً مع تراجع عدد المغادرين بنسبة 74.07% إلى 914،630 مسافر. في السياق عينه، إنكمش عدد العابرين (ترانزيت) عبر مطار بيروت الدولي بنسبة 7.19% على أساسٍ سنويّ إلى 34،116 مسافر لغاية شهر أيلول، كما وتقلّص عدد الرحلات الجويّة بنسبة 65.63% إلى 19،515. وقد تراجعت حصّة طيران الشرق الأوسط من إجمالي الرحلات من 36.90% مع نهاية شهر أيلول من العام 2019 إلى 36.30% في الفترة نفسها من العام 2020 ، كما هو مبيّن أدناه:
