Beirut Port freight activity contracted to around 415 thousand tons during the month of November 2020, down from 417 thousand tons in the previous month. On a cumulative basis, freight activity fell by 33.72% y-o-y to 4,099 thousand tons in the first eleven months of 2020, from 6,184 thousand tons during that same period last year. In addition, the number of vessels dropped by 22.40% y-o-y to 1,261, with the number of imported cars plunging by 74.91% (34,410 cars) to 11,526 in the light of the USD liquidity shortage that is straining import activity. In a related context, the Beirut port handled containers with a total cargo capacity of around 706.070 thousand TEUs (including transshipments) up to November in comparison with a cargo capacity of some 1,157.157 thousand TEUs in the same period last year. Finally, Beirut port revenues fell by 45.94% on an annual basis to $99.77 million by November 2020.
