The Association of Banks in Lebanon has rejected the governmentally approved financial recovery plan in a recently published communiqué. The ABL considered that the plan relieves the government and BDL from their responsibilities to honor their debt obligations, shouldering as such the burden on depositors after having wiped out banks’ capital. The ABL’s communique also lamented the government’s refusal of any alternative solutions, including that suggested by the ABL and which calls for the establishment of a sovereign wealth fund that invests, and does not own, in some of the governmental assets to recoup investors’ deposits.
رفضت جمعيّة المصارف في لبنان في بيان لها الخطّة التي أقرتها الحكومة للتعافي المالي. وقد إعتبرت جمعيّة المصارف بأنّ الخطّة تعفي الحكومة ومصرف لبنان من مسؤوليتهما لجهّة تسديد مستحقّاتهما من الدين وهو ما يحمّل هذا العبء على المودعين بعد أن قضت الخطّة على رأسمال المصارف. وقد ندّد البيان برفض الحكومة لأي مقترحات بديلة ومنها إقتراح الجمعيّة القاضي بإنشاء صندوق سيادي يستثمر في أصول الدولة ولا يتملّكها وذلك بهدف إعادة أموال المودعين.
