All monetary aggregates ended the week of September 29, 2022 on a positive note. The overall money supply, “M4”, widened by LBP 7,358.73 billion on a weekly basis and by 4.50% on an annual basis to LBP 222,849 billion, noting that the non-banking sector’s Treasury bills portfolio increased by LBP 121 billion during the concerned week.

In parallel, Lebanese-Pound denominated deposits and currency in circulation, “M1”, soared by LBP 7,534.53 million week-on-week to LBP 73,813 billion on the back of some LBP 7,153 billion appreciation in currency in circulation, coupled with the LBP 382 billion increase in demand deposits. Local currency term deposits, “M2”, also rose by LBP 7,580.31 billion on a weekly basis and by 21.55% year-on-year to settle at LBP 91,522 billion.

Consequently, private sector term and saving deposits denominated in LBP (“M2-M1”) increased by LBP 45.78 billion (0.26%) to LBP 17,709 billion during the week of September 29, while deposits denominated in foreign currencies (“M3-M2”) sank by LBP 342.29 billion (0.30%) to LBP 113,074 billion.
