The Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Mr. Najib Mikati recently revealed that he was informed by TotalEnergies that drilling in block 9 has not led to any discovery of oil and gas reserves. Lebanon was hopeful that any such discovery could help alleviate the colossal economic crisis it is facing. According to experts in the field, these results do not rule out the presence of hydrocarbon reserves in other spots of the concerned block, with rigs usually drilling in different locations to reach a conclusive result. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the contract with TotalEnergies (which will be decommissioning the rig for now to move it to Cyprus) obliges the company to drill one exploratory well, with the decision to drill more wells being at TotalEnergies’ discretion.
كشف رئيس حكومة تصريف الأعمال مؤخّراً بأنّ شركة توتال إنيرجيز أبلغته بأنّ عمليّات الحفر في البلوك رقم 9 لم تؤدّي إلى العثور على مخزونات نفطيّة. وكان لبنان يأمل بأن يؤدّي إكتشاف الغاز إلى المساعدة في التخفيف من وطأة أزمته الإقتصاديّة. وبحسب خبراء في المجال، فإنّ هذه النتيجة لا تستبعد إمكانية وجود مخزونات نفطيّة في بقع أخرى من هذا الحقل، بحيث أنّ منصّات الحفر عادةً ما تتموضع في عدّة أماكن من البقعة الجغرافيّة ذاتها قبل أن تصل إلى نتيجة حاسمة. أخيراً تجدر الإشارة بأنّ العقد مع توتال إنيرجيز (والتي ستقوم الآن بفكفكة المنصّة لنقلها إلى قبرص) يلزم الشركة بحفر بئر واحد، فيما يعود القرار بحفر آبار أخرى إلى الشركة فقط.
