The Lebanese financial sector’s net foreign assets widened by $470.2 million in September of the current year in comparison with an increase of $145.1 million in August, a contraction of $217.2 million in July, a decrease of $88.2 million in June and a drop of $5.6 million in May. September’s figures can be attributed to some $381.7 million rise in the net foreign assets of banks & financial institutions, coupled with an $88.5 million increase in the net foreign assets of the Central Bank. On a cumulative basis, the financial sector’s net foreign assets soared by $1,541.3 million during the first nine months of 2023 in comparison with a drop of $3,052.7 million in the same period in 2022. The year to date increase in the financial sector’s net foreign assets owes to some $2,796.7 million expansion in the net foreign assets of banks & financial institutions which outweighed the $1,255.5 million drop in the net foreign assets of the Central Bank.
