The Lebanese financial sector’s net foreign assets narrowed by $81.2 million in October of the current year in comparison with an increase of $470.2 million in September, a rise of $145.1 million in August, a contraction of $217.2 million in July and a decrease of $88.2 million in June. October’s figures can be attributed to some $260.1 million drop in the net foreign assets of banks & financial institutions, outweighing the $179.0 million increase in the net foreign assets of the Central Bank. On a cumulative basis, however, the financial sector’s net foreign assets soared by $1,460.1 million during the first ten months of 2023 in comparison with a drop of $2,859.9 million in the same period in 2022. The year to date increase in the financial sector’s net foreign assets owes to some $2,536.6 million expansion in the net foreign assets of banks & financial institutions which outweighed the $1,076.5 million drop in the net foreign assets of the Central Bank.
