The Lebanese government opted during its latest meeting on February 28 for raising the salaries of current and retired civil servants and military personnel in the light of the drastic depreciation of the Lebanese pound since the year 2019. In figures, the monthly salaries of civil servants & military personnel (both acting and retired ones) will now range between $230 and $900, with acting employees also being entitled to a productivity bonus ranging between $150 and $250 per month in the event they report to work on a daily basis. Public sector employees will also benefit from additional transportation remuneration that varies according to their grade or rank. The overall cost of this salary adjustment is estimated at LBP 2,927 billion per month, noting that the increase will be effective on a retroactive basis since December 1, 2023. Finally, it is worth pointing out that public sector employees who have previously benefitted from a salary increase (judges, professors at the Lebanese university, Ogero employees along with NSSF employees only to name a few) were excluded from the provisions of this adjustment.
