The United States, through USAID, is providing Lebanon with $67.05 million in additional and direly needed humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable population in Lebanon according to a press release issued on April 3, 2024. The assistance will provide emergency food assistance & nutrition support, emergency healthcare, humanitarian protection, and water, sanitation & hygiene services. More specifically, some $61.62 million will be dedicated to the World Food Programme which aims to support some 200,000 Lebanese nationals and 300,000 Syrian refugees with monthly food assistance in 2024 while around $0.43 million will be used to assist Lebanese affected by the dire economic situation the country is facing based on their needs. Furthermore, the remaining $5 million, which will be allocated to NGO partners of the USAID ($2 million for International Medical Corps and $3 million for Relief International), will be allocated to select Lebanese regions to help more than 141,000 individuals through 13 primary healthcare clinics across the country. In addition, the press release stated that the conflict in Gaza has worsened the situation in Lebanon which prompted the USAID to mobilize existing resources to assist more than 91,000 internally displaced Lebanese individuals in South Lebanon since October 2023.
