The caretaker minister of Energy and Water Dr. Walid Fayad recently launched a tender for the construction of an 8 megawatt (MW) solar power plant, rendering it as such the largest solar power plant in the country when completed. The power plant will be established along the Beirut river, near the already existing 1 MW solar power plant. The tender expires in 45 days, and will be funded by the budget of the Ministry of Energy and Water. In details, payments would be in Lebanese pounds at the exchange rate set by BDL at the date of each payment. Dr. Fayad concluded by announcing that Lebanon (including residential and commercial) has currently a total installed solar power capacity of 1,500 MW, representing 20% of the country’s energy consumption.

أطلق وزير الطاقة والمياه في حكومة تصريف الأعمال الدكتور وليد فيّاض مناقصة لبناء محطّة للطاقة الشمسيّة بقدرة 8 ميغاوات وهو ما سيجعلها الأكبر لإنتاج الطاقة الشمسيّة في البلاد. سيتم إنشاء محطّة توليد الكهرباء على طول نهر بيروت، إلى جانب محطّة توليد الكهرباء على الطاقة الشمسيّة بقدرة 1 ميغاوات التي تمّ بناؤها سابقاً. تنتهي مهلة المناقصة بعد 45 يومًا، وسيتم تمويلها من موازنة وزارة الطاقة والمياه. في التفاصيل، ستتم الدفعات بالعملة الوطنيّة بسعر الصرف الذي يحدّده مصرف لبنان في تاريخ كل دفعة. وإختتم الدكتور فيّاض كلمته بالإشارة إلى أنّ إنتاج لبنان الحالي من الطاقة الشمسيّة (بما فيه الصناعي والسكني) يبلغ 1500 ميغاواط، أي ما يشكّل 20% من إستهلاك الطاقة في البلاد.
