The Lebanese Minister of Finance Mr. Yassine Jaber and the World Bank Country Director for the Middle East Department Mr. Jean-Christophe Carret have signed an agreement under the provisions of which the World Bank would grant Lebanon a $250 million loan to tackle its electricity issues. In details, the loan will be channeled towards building solar power plants capable of generating 150 megawatts in the Baalbek-Hermel region that will achieve $40 million in cost savings per annum. In addition, the loan would be geared towards the development of a new transmission network, the creation a control center for smart meters and the rebuilding of the electricity distribution control center, with the aim of reducing technical losses.
وقّع وزير الماليّة اللبناني، السيّد ياسين جابر، والمدير الإقليمي لدائرة الشرق الأوسط في البنك الدولي، السيّد جان كريستوف كاريه، إتفاقيةً يمنح البنك الدولي بموجبها لبنان قرضاً بقيمة 250 مليون د.أ. لمعالجة أزمة الكهرباء. وسيُخصّص هذا القرض لبناء محطات طاقة شمسيّة بقدرة 150 ميغاواط في منطقة بعلبك-الهرمل، مما سيساهم بتحقيق وفر سنوي بقيمة 40 مليون د.أ. كما سيستعمل القرض لتطوير شبكة نقل جديدة وإنشاء مركز تحكم للعدّادات الذكية وإعادة بناء مركز التحّكم بتوزيع الكهرباء، بهدف الحدّ من الهدر الفنّي.
