The “M1” rose by 0.06% in March 2025 to LBP 119.13 trillion, up from LBP 119.06 trillion in the previous month, noting that it increased by 33.61% y-o-y when compared to the LBP 89.16 trillion level registered in March of the previous year. More specifically, currency in circulation increased by 0.86% in March of the current year to LBP 77.85 trillion, while demand deposits in LBP decreased by 1.40% to LBP 41.28 trillion. It is worth noting that currency in circulation came in 52.69% higher on an annual basis when compared to March 2024’s figure of LBP 50.99 trillion. The “M2” component, which adds term deposits in LBP to “M1”, increased by 0.96% in March of the current year to LBP 157.90 trillion, up from LBP 156.39 trillion in February of the same year, noting that it stood at LBP 104.16 trillion in March 2024. As for the “M3” component, which adds deposits in foreign currencies and debt securities issued to the “M2” monetary aggregate, it dropped by 0.19% month-on-month to LBP 6,212.02 trillion in March 2025. The overall money supply, “M4”, which adds LBP treasury bills held by the non-banking sector, also showed a slight 0.20% decrease between the second and third months of 2025, reaching LBP 6,220.16 trillion noting that the portfolio of LBP Treasury bills held by the non-banking sector dropped by just below 8% month-on-month to LBP 8.14 trillion.
